Voodoo Funk

This is totally a site for you Zoe...
Called Voodoo Funk. Basically the person goes digging for some serious Afro-Beat muzak, then makes mix-tapes of new findings, and writes about it all. right up your alley considering your love of mix-tapes and afrobeat.

(p.s. i found it on recommendation from Hadiza @ Robot Broadcasts, which is also an awsome read... man it's easy to get lost in music knowledge and hearings and blogs)

World Town

You'd really like this blog zoe. The guy who writes it, Maga Bo is a cool tripper. He's originally from the US, but he pretty much is in every country all the time. I think he especially likes the african nations and the south americas. He's into all kindsa trippy world music, like a whole lot of styles. I remember i was getting into his stuff in a big way a couple of years back, following a lot of his mixes and stuff. He'd go thru lots of tempos, countries sounds, genres, he helped get me into baile funk actually. That's right, that's how i got into him. I was researching baile funk (ps, most of that writing is compiled by me, some is original, but i mostly read other stuff and put together all the important bits. probably badly cited it all too), and his name popped up in a couple of mixes, so i downloaded a few more.

Basically what he does, is travels round to all these random countries, and goes hardcore. He doesn't pussy foot around the eiffle tower if you know what i mean. He goes all rural, like to tribes and stuff, and really experiences the culture. While he's there, he takes his laptop, and makes beats and DJs places. He like collaborates with artists from all these different trippy countries. I'm writing about him because he's very inspiring, and i expect you would find him just as inspiring. I mean you gotta admire that right? what a life. Just travelling, tripping, creating. I'm sure he ain't making that much at all either, but he's making enuf to get himself to the next country. Are the acceptance of having a life with little monetary gain-sounds alright too me, maybe that's cause i'm a spoilt private school boy tho. But meh, i think i can handle being happy with constantly creating, and making jack shit from it. Of course i'm gonna make millions tho and take over the world cause i'm like the best thing that's hit grass since water. HAH! yeh it's fun to hype...

Anyway, check the blog, read this post first. I just did, it's interesting, and where the picture above comes from. He has a whole lot of mixes scattered thru his website. Dunno how many you can download, you can at least stream them.
Oh P.S. isn't this like the best song of the MIA album? It's also relevant to this post. But i'm obsessed with it, and most of the other songs too, but especially this one. I'm totally playing it tomorrow, if you're not there, but you turn up later on, it's getting a rewind. BOIM SELEKTA! It's so easy to do a little hand dance to the chorus.
Hands up! Guns out! Represent! The world town!

Quote of the post:
"There is an enormous tree where the special dance step was passed on to them earlier in the year at the center of the village."

oh and may i add, syrian gangstas

Zoeface

This person is called Zoeface. Zoeface is coming with entertainment! look out please.
There's also this other guy called Zoepound, who's apparently gotta eat.

I reckon this type of dance looks a bit stupid personally. It's interesting tho. It reminds me of some sorta electro dance influenced by some breaking, so i spose it's relevant. But still... They do have cool shoes tho.
Oh and yelle's playing at parklife too. She's good for songs like this

bikes n bikes n bikes

There needs to be way more bike inventions. Like bikes with special contraptions all over them. I envision a bike with a special protective dome covering it, that i can somehow sleep in too.
Also, all bikes need like a ghetto-blaster compartment/holding section. I'm not talking no ipod and some silly headphones, i want a god damn ghetto blaster. 2 person riding bikes would be fun too. I like the little dome in this one, you could fit some1 in there right? maybe that's the key with the bed, it might need to be a seperate cart-type section that you pull along, i dunno.
It's silly, i've dreamt of the perfect bike all my life, yet i havn't owned one since i was like 9.
Also, the bikes would need to be low-riding scrapers. Nuff said... for now

Back in the 1880's

I wonder if Zoe every watched Full Frontal/Fast Foward? Remember that back in the 80s skit? and they once did one where it was "back in the 1880s". They had this guy walk up with a wheelbarrow full of lollies and he was like "a penny doesn't get you as much as it used to" ahhh the humour.

Anyway to do with the 80s, it's fun to look back on, or to refference, or to do some of the styles in a bit of a flashback kinda thing, but i'm so glad we're not in the 80s right now. This video clip kinda scares me::

MIA needs to be replaced by Zoe in this video.
Zoe needs that many back-up dancers in colours, and wouldn't turn down those outfits.

Sesame Street Zoe

This Zoe doesn't dance nearly as well as Zoe, and is much more annoying...

Zoe's Dance Moves

Banana Cake

I got this recipe from Exclusively Food.

This recipe makes a moist, dense banana cake with a smooth cream cheese icing. The cake doesn't rise much so it has a nice flat top for presentation. We served the cake at room temperature and topped each slice with a little passionfruit pulp.

You will need about 2-3 large bananas for this recipe.

125g butter, softened (if using unsalted butter, add 1/4 teaspoon salt with the flour)
330g (1 1/2 cups) sugar
280g (1 very slightly rounded cup) very ripe, mashed banana
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (1 teaspoon natural vanilla essence)
2 large eggs (we use eggs with a minimum weight of 59g)
100ml (1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon) buttermilk
225g (1 1/2 cups) self-raising flour
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

Preheat oven to 160 degrees Celsius fan-forced. If you don't have a fan-forced oven, preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease and line a 22cm diameter springform pan.

Place butter, sugar, banana, vanilla and eggs in a food processor.

Process for about 2 minutes. Scrape down sides of processor. Add buttermilk and pulse to combine.

Sift flour, salt (if using) and bicarbonate of soda together into a large bowl. Add flour mixture to food processor and process until just combined.

Pour batter into prepared tin.

Bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until a skewer or knife inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean.

Leave cake to cool on a wire rack.

Spread cooled cake with cream cheese icing. Store cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Cream Cheese Icing
90g cream cheese, softened
45g butter, softened
1 cup icing sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice

Beat cream cheese and butter with an electric mixer until creamy. Add sifted icing sugar and beat until smooth. Add lemon juice and beat to combine. Spread icing over top and sides of cooled cake.

NOTES FROM SCATTERMISH:

Cake:
Make sure you do the first part through a food processor like the recipe says. I was lazy and did it all with a beater, but it means the butter and banana don't mash up properly. So my cake was a little bit thick and dense as a result.
Also i say there's never really a problem with using extra banana. I used to prescribed amount, but coulda done with a bit more banana flavour... I do love bananas, but.
I never really believe in leaving a cake to sit before eating it. It tastes the best straight out of the oven. Eat some of it then, without any icing, and it's almost caramely... oh yeah!

Icing:
The icing originally had 1 2/3 cups of icing sugar, but this woulda made it waaayyy too sweet. I'm pretty much always wary of the amount of icing sugar they tell you to put it, as I'm not really a fan of sweet icing, but more of a fan of the flavour of whatever you're making the icing out of. I ended up changing the amount of icing sugar to 1 cup only, and the icing sugar was bloody nice. Just do it to taste.
Also be careful with how much lemon juice you put in. I pretty much just squeezed half a lemon, which made the icing much too runny, and it just slid off the cake.
Also get like 3 passionfruits and drible them over the top of the icing (kinda like the top picture), it's a nice edition.

Hmmm....
Zoe you do like bananas right? you better... or else!

Marawa

i'm sure zoe eyes have already come across this since her and marawa are friends, but are they net-friends too?
anyway this video is great, i want a hoola hoop dancer at my parties

Zoe needs to get into Kuduro music. Portugal's answer to Baile Funk, it just seems they can go even more crazy. You can def get jiggy wit it.
